Appointment Wait Times

On this page:

Overview

All applicants are processed as efficiently as possible and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) strives to keep the wait time for appointments as short as possible. That said, the earlier you book your appointment, the more likely you are to be able to get the interview date and time you want.

Students:  If you are attending a program starting in Fall 2023, apply and schedule your appointment now! Submit your application as soon as you receive your I-20 form from your school. Contact your school if you still do not have your I-20 form. If you have your I-20 form, you may apply as early as one year in advance of your program start date. For all students, we recommend applying more than three months prior to your intended departure from Taiwan. If interviewing, you may have to wait a month or more for your interview appointment.

Visa Processing Time

This refers to number of working days required to process a non-immigrant visa after a Consular Officer decides to issue the visa.  Although visa processing time is typically three working days, processing time for specific cases may vary due to individual circumstances and other special requirements.  Visa processing time does not include the time required for administrative processing or the time required for passport delivery, which is generally one business day within Taiwan.

We strongly suggest you do not pay for travel arrangements such as airfare without having a U.S. visa in your possession. AIT bears no responsibility if you do so. AIT is unable to guarantee the issuance of a visa before any fixed travel date.

Note: A business day is defined as a day between Monday and Friday (excluding U.S. and Taiwan public holidays observed in Taiwan).
