Overview

Some applicants may be eligible to receive a visa without an interview provided they meet certain qualifications. Please note that this option applies only to Georgian citizens or residents of Georgia physically present in Georgia. If you are a resident, please submit a copy of your residency card together with your documents.

Qualifications

Qualifications for applicants renewing their visas:

  • You are applying for the same visa category of a C1/D; F, M, or academic J (excluding nationals of Nigeria or the People’s Republic of China); O; P; H1B or H4; or a non-blanket L, and your visa expired less than 48 months ago.
  • Your passport with the previous visa is still in your possession.
  • In the annotation field, your previous visa does NOT show either of the following: Waiver or Clearance.

Note: J1 Summer Work and Travel (SWT) applicants are NOT eligible to use the interview waiver process.

How to Apply

Step 1

Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form.

Step 2

Pay your visa fee.

Step 3

Create a profile on this web page. After logging in to our online applicant system, select “Schedule Appointment”. Please proceed to answer the questions, which will evaluate your eligibility to apply for a visa without an interview. If qualified for an interview waiver, you will receive a confirmation letter with detailed instructions on how to submit your documents to the courier.

You will need three pieces of information in order to register online:

      • Passport details
      • The receipt number
      • Ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page (one page with a barcode)

Step 4

You should submit your documents in person at a TNT office. The TNT location at 25 Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue in Tbilisi is free of charge; using any of the other TNT offices (Batumi, Gori, Kutaisi, Poti, Rustavi, Telavi) for document submission incurs an additional charge. TNT will deliver your documents directly to the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi. You need to provide:

  • A copy of your Georgian residency card (for anyone submitting an application without a Georgian passport)
  • The Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter (generated during online registration)
  • Your valid passport (and your old passport if there is a valid U.S. visa of the same class you are applying for in it)
  • The DS-160 confirmation page and other required documents (depending on the visa type you are applying for)
  • For F and M visas: a signed I-20 and a current, unofficial transcript from your school
  • For academic J visas (secondary and university students, professors, researchers, short-term program researchers or specialists): your original, signed DS-2019 form
  • For O and P visas: a copy of your petition
  • For C1/D visas: your seaman’s book, the letter of invitation from your employer, and a legible photocopy of the medical assessment form stating “Fit for duty”
  • For H1Bs: your approved petition (form I-129 or Form I-797)
  • For non-blanket Ls: your approved petition (form I-129 or Form I-797)

You will receive the Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter if, based on your answers to the interview waiver eligibility questions at Step 7 of the online applicant system, it is determined that you are eligible for an interview waiver.

Step 5

Once we receive your application package, a consular official will make the final determination as to whether you qualify for visa issuance without a personal interview. Information regarding passport retrieval, at the conclusion of the visa adjudication process, can be found at this page.
