Submitting 221(g) Documents

Overview
The U.S. Embassy or Consulate may give you a 221(g) letter directing you to submit additional documents or information related to your visa application. Your application will be kept on hold at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate until you submit those documents.
All documents and information requested in a 221(g) letter should be submitted at the nearest UPS Access Point within one year from the date you received the 221(g) letterr. Failure to submit the required information within one year will result in the suspension of your visa application. You will be required to submit a new visa application and pay all associated fees in order to continue with your visa application process.
How to Submit 221(g) Documents
Electronic Copies via Email
If you received instructions to send via email an electronic copy of a document, send it in PDF to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate which issued your 221(g) letter. Attachments must not exceed 3MB.

Original Documents via Mail
If you received instructions to send by mail original documents, then the following delivery options are available:
- Drop your documents at one of the following drop off points, corresponding to the processing Consulate:
- Mail Boxes Etc. 0202 - Deniz Kildan Business Services e. K - located at Bundesallee 116, Berlin, 12161 – drop off times Monday to Friday, 10:00 - 17:30 (closed on holidays)
- Tri-Punkt Solutions - Munich - located at Dachauer Str. 9 (access via Marsstr.), München, 80335 – drop off times Monday to Friday, 10:00 - 17:30 (closed on holidays)
- Mail Boxes Etc 0009 - located at Eschersheimer Landstraße 42, Frankfurt, 60322 – drop off times Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 18:00 (closed on holidays)
NOTE: you can only drop off the documents in the corresponding consular city of application (e.g. if your visa application is pending in Berlin, you can only drop off documents at the Berlin courier location).
There is no cost for using this delivery option.
The documents need to be dropped off already packed in sealed envelopes or boxes, with applicant’s name and UID visibly written on the packaging; please bring along with the package a copy of the 221g letter, which you can print from these links: Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich.
- The second option is to mail your documents to the US Embassy/Consulate using the UPS service. This option requires the payment of a delivery fee which can be done by accessing this link. Once the payment completed, the shipping label will be generated automatically and displayed on your screen. Print the shipping label and apply it to the package containing your application documents.
NOTE: the UPS shipping label can only be used within Germany.
IMPORTANT: If you choose the UPS option, it is critical that you use suitable packaging, and that you ensure your shipment is securely sealed. Be advised that if you choose to send your documents in a regular envelope, your shipment could be damaged or even lost while en route to the US Consulate.
Regardless of the chosen delivery option, your documents will be delivered to the application U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
The passport and your documents will be returned to you by UPS, to the address indicated in your online profile, or if you chose the pick-up option, you will be able to pick-up the passport at the dedicated collection point. If issued, your passport will contain your visa. You may also receive a new 221(g) letter.
