Receiving documents FROM the U.S. Embassy – the fee for premium home or premium TNT/FedEx office delivery is 11.25 USD per passport. The fee must be paid via this link. Documents cannot be released until payment is rendered.

Do not contact U.S. Embassy Sofia with questions pertaining to the status of your passport delivery or payment of the premium fee, as they do not have this information and will be unable to assist you. Instead, please consult this page for assistance.

Overview

If approved, your visa and passport will be delivered via one of the following methods:

  • TNT/FedEx Head Office Pickup in Sofia:This option is free of charge. This location is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 - 19:00.
  • Premium TNT/FedEx Pickup OR Premium Home/Office Delivery:A premium fee of 11.25 USD (paid with credit/debit card in Bulgarian Leva at the exchange rate applicable on the day of payment) applies for this service. The fee must be paid here.
  • Please see additional information on these options below.

Note:  Please provide us with your mobile phone number and email address so that we may contact you for information on your passport delivery. Passports will be delivered only on business days.

Change Delivery Options

You may change your preferred document pick-up location online or through the call center until 11:59 p.m. the day before your interview appointment. There is no cost to change your pick-up location.

Passport Tracking Options

For your convenience, you have several options to choose from to track the location of your passport.

Instant: Enter your passport number below to check on the status. If your passport is ready for pick-up, please bring supporting documents and collect it in a timely manner. If your passport is not collected in a timely manner it will be sent back to the Embassy or Consulate.

 

 

Email: Send an email to passportstatus@ustraveldocs.com and in the subject and/or body enter a valid passport number exactly as it was entered at the time the appointment was scheduled, and you will receive an automatic response with the status.

Collecting Your Documents

  • TNT/FedEx Head Office Pickup in Sofia

You may select the TNT/FedEx location in Sofia at Nedelcho Bonchev 35 when scheduling your interview. Please provide your current email address when you select this location. You will receive an email when your documents arrive at TNT/FedEx. When picking up, you must present a valid ID card.

  • Premium TNT/FedEx Office Pickup

If you choose to retrieve your documents via premium TNT/FedEx office pickup, you must present proof of payment, along with a valid ID card. You will receive payment instructions in the email sent to you once your passport reaches the TNT/FedEx office following the processing of your application.

Please note that your documents will be available for pickup after your payment is confirmed. You will be notified when the documents are ready for pick-up.

  • Premium Home/Office Delivery

If you choose to receive your passport via premium home/office delivery, you will receive payment instructions in the email sent to you once your passport reaches the TNT/FedEx office.

TNT/FedEx will contact you to schedule a date and time for delivery after your payment is confirmed. Someone must be present at your home/office when the courier arrives to deliver your passport. A limited number of delivery attempts will be made. If you are not present to receive your passport, it will be returned to the Embassy.

Please note:

  • If you select a premium service, payment must be made online through the link in the email that you will receive when your documents reach the TNT/FedEx head office. You must use a card with 3-D security, otherwise payment processing may be delayed or ultimately unsuccessful. Complete the requested information and add your UID number in the ‘Notes’ field on the payment page.

The UID number is located on the right-hand side of the screen next to your username on your ustraveldocs.com profile. Each applicant must make an individual payment with their own UID number.

  • TNT/FedEx will only hold passports for 10 business days from the date you receive the email notification. Failure to retrieve your passport within this timeframe will cause delays and possible additional expense in receiving your passport. After 10 business days have elapsed, TNT/FedEx will return your passport to the Embassy, after which you mustwait for collection instructions.

The free TNT/FedEx pickup office is located at 35 Nedelcho Bonchev str.Sofia 1528. This location is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 - 19:00.

Same-day Pickup Location

TNT Express has identified one branch location in Sofia as the location where you can pick up the passport on the same day as we receive it from the Embassy.

 

Please note that this does not mean that your will receive your passport with the visa in the same day of the interview.

Should you have an emergency case or need to pick up your passport early, please select the following TNT Express office as your pickup location. Please note that by selecting this location, you are not applying for expedited visa processing. Your passport will be available for collection once the visa is processed and the Embassy has handed it over to TNT Express for delivery.

Supporting Documents

You must present an original government-issued photo identification document to retrieve your passport.  You will also need to have your User ID (UID) available (you can find your UID on your appointment letter). 

If you are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must be present for passport pick-up and must show his/her government-issued identification document. They will also need to have a photocopy of your passport. If this is not available, they may bring your birth certificate or government issued identification document.

If someone other than yourself is retrieving your passport, your representative must present:

  • The representative’s own government-issued identification document AND
  • A photocopy of the applicant’s government-issued identification document AND
  • A letter of authority, signed by you, authorizing your representative to collect your passport

 The letter of authority must contain the following information:

  • Your representative's full name as shown on their government-issued identification document AND
  • Your name and date of birth

Note:  In case of a group/family, a single letter of authority with the required information for each of the applicants is acceptable.
