Effective Sunday, June 12 at 12:01 a.m. EDT, the CDC rescinded its Order requiring all airline or other aircraft passengers to show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 to board any aircraft destined to the United States from a foreign country. Of note, CDC’s Order requiring proof of vaccination for non-U.S. citizen nonimmigrants to travel to the United States is still in effect. For more information see Requirement for Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination for Air Passengers.

The U.S. Mission to Australia understands that many visa applicants have paid the visa application processing fee and are still waiting to schedule a visa appointment. We are working diligently to restore all routine visa operations as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, rest assured that the U.S. Mission will extend the validity of your payment (known as the MRV fee) until September 30, 2023, to allow all applicants who were unable to schedule a visa appointment as a result of the suspension of routine consular operations an opportunity to schedule and/or attend a visa appointment with the already paid fee.

Secretary Blinken, in consultation with the Department of Homeland Security, has temporarily expanded the ability of consular officers to waive the in-person interview requirement for individuals applying for a nonimmigrant visa in the same classification. Previously, only those applicants whose nonimmigrant visa expired within 24 months were eligible for an interview waiver. The Secretary has temporarily extended the expiration period to 48 months. This policy is in effect until December 31, 2021. This change will allow consular officers to continue processing certain nonimmigrant visa applications while limiting the number of applicants who must appear at a consular section, thereby reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission to other applicants and consular staff. Travelers are encouraged to review the website of the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate for detailed information on what services are currently available as well as eligibility information and instructions on applying for a visa without an interview.
You are reminded to apply for your U.S. visa interview well in advance of your traveling plans. You should never pay for travel arrangements (e.g., airfare, hotels) without having a visa in your possession. The U.S. Consulate General accepts no responsibility if you do so. You risk significant financial losses if you ignore this advice. Appointment dates and time slots are released by the U.S. Consulate at its sole discretion, depending on the visa types and other criteria. Call center agents may not be able to assist you in getting an earlier appointment, when you contact them by telephone or by email. Please be sure to review the Apply By Mail option as we find many applicants do not require an interview. Consulate General Perth prioritizes regular and emergency appointment requests from residents of Western Australia (WA). Requests from applicants applying from outside of WA are accommodated on a space available basis.
Applicants must use Microsoft Explorer or Google Chrome to fill out their application. You will not be able to make payment or schedule your appointment if you are using Safari or Firefox.
Before arriving at a U.S. Consulate or Embassy, please review the security regulations posted on this site. Please be aware that you will not be allowed to enter the Consulate or Embassy with battery-operated or electronic devices. Persons arriving with these devices will be refused entry and risk having their appointments cancelled. Please be aware that neither the consulates nor embassy can store electronic devices. Please plan to leave electronic devices at home or store them off-site before arriving for your appointment.
