Overview

Qualifications for renewing a Visitor (B-1/B-2) visa:

The applicant applies to ALL of the following conditions:

  • Possesses a valid B-1/B-2 maximum validity visa (or one that has expired within the past 12 months). Please check visa reciprocity by nationality in the following link before answering the question https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html.
  • The visa was valid for 5-year B-1/B-2 visa and at the moment of issuance the applicant was under 14 years of age
  • The visa has not expired within the past 12 months
  • Has never been arrested or convicted of a crime, deported from the United States, denied entry to the United States, or have had any other problems or difficulties with U.S. Customs and Border Protection when attempting to enter the United States. 
  • Must not have been refused or revoked a visa in the last 12 months.
  • The applicant is under 14 years of age, both parents must have a valid visa and must be the same type of visa that they are requesting or have an active the ESTA.
  • The applicant is older than 79 years old.

NOTE: If the visa was stolen BUT the previous conditions are in effect the applicant may schedule an appointment as a RENEWAL.

Applicants will be required to apply through the normal application process if ANY of the following conditions applies:

  • The U.S. visa expired over 12 months ago;
  • The passport is damaged;
  • The applicant must travel immediately; or
  • The applicant is a domestic employee and traveling as such.

 All visa applicants must be present at the consular interview. This includes children under 14 and adults over 80.

Renewal Program for Other Visa Categories: (C-1/D, F (Except Optional Practical Training), M, I, J (Except J-1 Summer Work and Travel), H, L, O, P, Q, R)

Some applicants born in Venezuela and applying with a Venezuelan passport may qualify for this program by mail without a personal interview.

Who is eligible for this renewal program?

Applicants applying in the exact same visa category, with a previous visa issued in Caracas on or after December 10, 2007, and who have had all ten fingerprints captured at a prior interview. (Both principal applicants and derivatives can qualify for this program).

To apply through this program an applicant must meet ALL of the following requirements: 

  • Renewing a C-1/D, F, M, I, J (except J-1 Summer Work and Travel), H, L, O, P, Q or R Visa;
  • Possess a valid visa, or one expired within the past 12 months;
  • Applying for the exact same visa category, with the previous visa issued in Caracas on or after December 10, 2007, and who have had all ten fingerprints captured at prior interview;
  • Born in Venezuela and applying with a Venezuelan passport;
  • Have the visa being renewed in his/her possession;
  • Be physically present in Venezuela at the time of the application;
  • Not have a previous visa refused, lost, stolen or revoked within the last 10 years;
  • Not have been arrested or convicted of a crime, deported from the United States, denied entry to the United States, or have had any other problems or difficulties with U.S. Customs and Border Protection when attempting to enter the United States.
Special Note for F, M, and J applicants
  • Students (F and M applicants) are eligible provided the applicant is renewing his or her visa to either: (a) continue participation in the same program even if at a different institution; or (b) attend the same institution even if in a different program.
  • Exchange visitors (J applicants) are eligible if the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) number has not changed from the previously issued visa.

In all cases, consular officers reserve the right to require an interview of any visa applicant.
