I want to pay my visa fee at a local bank

Visa applicants, including children, are required to pay a non-refundable, non-transferable visa application fee, sometimes referred to as the MRV fee, before applying for a nonimmigrant visa. The visa application fee must be paid whether a visa is issued or not. The type of visa for which you apply determines the fee amount. This webpage lists visa application fees associated with each nonimmigrant visa type.

Please note that only the application fees for nonimmigrant visas are listed here. Information about other visa fees that are paid directly to the National Visa Center, to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate, or to the Department of Homeland Security, can be found here.

Overview

In most cases, each visa applicant, including children, is required to pay a non-refundable, non-transferable Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fee, whether a visa is issued or not. The visa application fee is determined by the type of visa for which you wish to apply. Generally, Sierra Leonen citizens need to pay a fee for a visa to the United States.

If you are a citizen of a country participating in the Visa Waiver Program, please first confirm whether you need to apply for a nonimmigrant visa or not. Certain individuals may not need a visa, for example, individuals eligible under the Visa Waiver Program, and should not pay an MRV fee.

In addition, some applicants for U.S. visas are not required to pay a fee. If you are applying for an A or G visa for official travel, or for a J visa to participate in certain U.S. Government-sponsored programs, please do not pay an MRV fee.

  • Individuals already holding valid visas for their intended purpose of travel.
  • Citizens of Canada or Bermuda (except in A, E, G, K or V visa categories)

If you do need to apply for a visa, please follow the instructions below for paying your visa application fee. For more information about fee exemptions, please visit this page.

Note: Applicants are limited to the number of times they can reschedule their appointments. Please plan accordingly so that you are not required to pay another visa application fee. Visa application fees are nonrefundable.

Cash at Bank

Visa applicants must pay the visa application fee in cash at a branch of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB)  in Sierra Leone. The fee is only payable in Leones and must be accompanied by a deposit slip. PLEASE follow the directions below:

  • Before going to a GTB location to make payment, you must print the U.S. visa application deposit slip for each member of your party.
  • Select the deposit slip that matches your visa application fee in the step 8 of the scheduling process as shown above. Values are shown in U.S. dollars; however, payments must be made in Leones. The amount in Leones will be listed on the deposit slip; it is calculated automatically by the system based on the consular currency exchange rate determined by the U.S. Department of State.
  • YOU MUST PRINT A UNIQUE DEPOSIT SLIP FOR EACH PERSON REQUIRIING A VISA. When making group payments, you MUST download a new deposit slip for each individual applicant. For example, if you have five family members that are applying for a visa, you must bring five different deposit slips to the bank and process five separate transactions to pay the visa fees.
  • Take the printed deposit slip with you to pay your fee. You will be unable to pay your fee if you do not bring a valid deposit slip.
  • Please note the expiration date on the deposit slip.  If the expiration date passes prior to using the slip to make your payment, simply return to this site and click the appropriate link below to generate a new deposit slip or deposit slips.  Reprinting deposit slips does not incur a fee.
  • Upon receipt of your payment and deposit slip, GTB will issue you a receipt. Save your receipt. It cannot be replaced if it is lost. You will not be able to schedule an appointment without your GTB issued receipt number.
