Apply for a Visa

On this page:

Overview

Please confirm whether or not you need to apply for a visa. You may not need to apply for a new U.S. visa if you already hold a valid U.S. visa or are a national of a Visa Waiver Program participating country (Russia does not currently participate in this program).

If you do need to apply for a nonimmigrant visa, please follow the steps below. If you are applying to renew a visa that is currently valid or recently expired, please follow the instructions on this page.

How to Apply

    Step 1
Pay the visa application fee. (This webpage lists all of the visa fees associated with the most common nonimmigrant visa types.)

    Step 2
Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form. Choose ‘Russian’ in the dropdown menu at the top right of the screen to view the application with Russian translations). After completing the form, print and save your confirmation page.

    Step 3
Schedule your appointment on this web page. You will need three pieces of information in order to schedule your appointment:

    • Your passport number
    • Your visa application fee payment receipt number
    • The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page

    Step 4
Visit the U.S. Embassy/Consulate on the date and time of your visa interview. You will need to bring a printed copy of your appointment letter, your DS-160 confirmation page, one recent photograph taken within the last 6 months and conforming to the guidelines on this webpage, your current passport and all old passports. Applications without all of these items will not be accepted.

    Step 5
If your application is approved, your passport and visa will be delivered to you by Pony Express or held for you to pick up at the address you specified when you scheduled your interview. Details on passport delivery are available on this webpage.
