Overview

Applicants under the age of 14 and at the age of 80 or over are not required to appear in person for an interview when applying for a nonimmigrant visa.

If a parent(s) is applying for a visa at the same time as a child under 14, the parent(s) may bring in the child's application at the time of his or her interview. No separate appointed is needed. Children under the age of 14 and applicants at the age of 80 or over may also drop off their application package to the main entrance of the U.S. Embassy, Monday-Friday, at 3:00 (except on U.S. and Mongolian holidays).

A complete application package includes:

  • Passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay in the United States;
  • Confirmation page of the DS-160 application form;
  • One photo - size: 5 cm x 5 cm; background: white. Check the requirements for photograph;
  • MRV fee receipt - both pink and yellow slips;
  • Brief explanation of the purpose of travel and itinerary in English;
  • For children under 14 years of age, please provide:
  1. An original of the child’s birth certificate.
  2. Copies of passport(s) and U.S. visa(s) of the adult(s) that is/are accompanying the child on the planned trip to the U.S.
  3. Statement from both parents confirming their awareness of, and agreement to the child’s intended trip to the U.S.
  • For applicants at the age of 80 or over, please provide the copies passports and visas of any persons that will accompany the applicant on the trip to the U.S.

Note: Please come back to the Embassy for the results of the visa application 2 weeks after the application package submission.

The use of the drop-off service does not guarantee visa issuance. After reviewing an application, the Consular section may, in some cases, require the applicant (or the applicant’s parents) to appear in person for a nonimmigrant visa interview.
