Submitting 221(g) Documents

The U.S. Embassy or Consulate may give you a 221(g) letter directing you to submit additional documents or information related to your visa application. Your application will be kept on hold at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate until you submit those documents.

All documents and information requested in a 221(g) letter should be submitted at the nearest Post Danmark document collection office within one year from the date you received the 221(g) letter. Failure to submit the required information within one year will result in the suspension of your visa application. You will be required to submit a new visa application and pay all associated fees in order to continue with your visa application process.

How to Submit 221(g) Documents


Electronic Copies 

If you received instructions to send an electronic copy of a document, send it in PDF format. Attachments must not exceed 3MB.

Original Documents via Mail

If you received instructions to send by mail original documents, please take the following steps.

Step 1

When you are ready to submit the application documents, please send us an e-mail to and we will arrange for you to receive an envelope containing a return envelope with a prepaid parcel label and a Track and Trace code on it, along with instructions on how to submit the return envelope at Post Denmark. When sending the e-mail, please specify the address where you would like the envelope to be mailed. Sending the documents at the US Consulate is a service free of charge.

Step 2

Go to the nearest Post Danmark office. Take your return envelope with your 221(g) letter given to you at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate and all documents requested in your 221(g) letter.

Step 3

Drop the return envelope containing your documents at any Post Danmark Office. Click here for locations. Post Danmark will deliver your documents to the Embassy.

Step 4

Post Danmark delivers your documents to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Step 5

Post Danmark returns your documents and your passport to you at your chosen document delivery address or pickup location. If issued, your passport will contain your visa. You may also receive a new 221(g) letter.

When you’re ready to submit the documents to the Embassy, please send us an e-mail at and, within 1 – 2 business days, we will e-mail you an address label which will allow you to mail your documents free of charge at the Consulate. That address label has to be applied on a parcel.

Take your package with your supporting documents to a post office and drop them off for delivery. Sending the documents at the US Consulate is a service free of charge.
