Submitting 221(g) Documents

On this page:

Overview

The U.S. Embassy may give you a 221(g) letter directing you to submit additional documents or information related to your visa application. Your application will be kept on hold at the U.S. Embassy until you submit those documents.

All documents and information requested in a 221(g) letter should be submitted via email and/or mail within one year from the date you received the 221(g) letter. Failure to submit the required information within one year will result in the suspension of your visa application fee. You will be required to repay the immigrant visa fee in order to continue with your visa application process.

Original Documents via Mail

If you received instructions to send by mail original documents, please take the following steps.

Step 1

When you are ready to submit the application documents, please send us an e-mail to support-switzerland@ustraveldocs.com and we will send you an address label which will allow you to send your package containing the application documents to the Consulate free of charge.

You should receive the e-mail within 1 – 2 business days.

Step 2

Attach your address label to your package with the 221(g) letter/green sheet given to you at the U.S. Embassy and all documents requested in your 221(g) letter and drop off at the Swiss Post Office. Please request a recipe containing the tracking number of the shipment from a Swiss Post officer.

Step 3

The Swiss Post delivers your documents to the U.S. Embassy.

Step 4

The Swiss Post returns your documents and your passport to you at your chosen document delivery address. If issued, your passport will contain your visa. You may also receive a new 221(g) letter.
